Someone in Hopewell, Virginia may have wondered how to finally find a town to fill a pothole.
After a year of complaining but to no avail, the man planted a small tree in the hole and placed Christmas lights around it. Then the video of the tree came out Viral on TikTok.
This seems to have attracted the attention of the city WTVRlocal CBS News affiliate.
Josh Anderson told the station that he complained to Hopewell City Hall, but the city never sent anyone to fix the road damage.
“I was going back to work, I hit the hole,” Anderson told the outlet. “I leaned back and filled the truck with dirt, dumped it in there and stuck the plant in there.”
Anderson told WTVR he stopped before driving off and took a picture of the plant, which he posted on Facebook. Then the Tick user You uploaded those photos. to their accounts. That video now has nearly 15 million views and 3 million likes.
Anderson told WTVR that when he got home from work, the city moved the tree out of the way. So he planted another tree in the hole and this time he connected the Christmas lights to it. That and viral attention may have finally convinced the city to take action.
“Every time I went to ask for it to be done and nothing was done. And as soon as I made TikTok and put it on their website with a tree, they brought out workers within 24 hours. I fixed it here,” Anderson told the newspaper.
The city of Hopewell did not immediately return a request for comment on Saturday.
