We learned three things from Manchester United's stunning derby comeback against Manchester City.

Anthony Martial has had a tough time with injuries this season.

The Manchester United striker has missed more than 20 games this campaign.

Despite his horrendous injury record, Erik ten Haag has publicly demonstrated the player’s importance to his team.

Martial may not be a prolific goalscorer, but what Ten Hag has to offer is attacking balance.

United are currently struggling to score goals and have been reliant on Marcus Rashford’s individual brilliance since December.

While Wot Wegerst has done a good job up front, the Ten Hag center lacks the technical quality needed to thrive going forward.

Martial’s ability to connect with his teammates in and around the opposition box makes him vital to the Ten Hag.

The Frenchman has averaged a goal or assist per game this season (G/A every 88.9 minutes).

He brings more than just goals to this United team.

In his final press release, Ten Haag spoke of Marshall’s qualities:

“When he is in the team, we play better football and we have better results as a team. I’ll defend him because I can point to the stats and see how he contributes.

“He time [Martial] The need for a goal is less. When he is in the team we play better football and we get better results as a team. I defend it because I can point to the stats and see how it contributes.
