Rays won on Sunday Oakland Athletics 11-0 to improve to 9-0 on the season behind a one-hit shutout from Drew Rasmussen, Ryan Thompson and Jason Adams and Brandon Lowe.

The team is the first since the 2003 Kansas City Royals to win their first nine games. Tampa Bay has outscored opponents 75-18, scoring the most runs but allowing the fewest in the big leagues. The Rays have won every game by four or more runs, the longest streak in a single season since the St. Louis Maroons’ streak of 13 in 1884.

His streak was the longest in any season since 1939. New York Yankees. The longest winning streak to start a season is 13 by the 1982 Atlanta Braves and 1987 Milwaukee Brewers.

“Basically everything is going the way we want,” Lowe said, via MLB.com. “This is incredible baseball that we’re playing, and we hope to continue that.”

Rasmussen allowed the lone run on Ramon Laureano’s 2-out double in the second inning. He went three games over 13 scoreless innings. He added a total of eight strikeouts. Manager Kevin Cash said Rasmussen “set the tone” for the game.

“It just opens things up. You have a chance to fill the strike a little bit faster,” Rasmussen added. “The way they’re going right now is incredible. I can’t say enough good things about it.”
