‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie’ broke box office records in 2023

Chris Pratt got another box office hit with this weekend’s release “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

Its release on Sunday showed box office estimates. Universal pictures movie It grossed $146 million in more than 4,300 theaters domestically.

In addition, the film adaptation of the popular Nintendo video game earned another $173 million worldwide.

“Mario Bros.” The blockbuster hit broke records for video game adaptations (“Warcraft” surpassed $210 million) and animated films (“Frozen 2’s” $358 million), making it the biggest opening of 2023 and the second-biggest three-day opening for a domestic animation (behind “Finding Dory”).

“This partnership between Nintendo and Illumination is amazing and has led to this extraordinary performance,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComCore, said: “The $377 million worldwide is a staggering and testament to how important outdoor activities are to families. “Kids and their parents are able to get out together and enjoy an outdoor event for the whole family at a relatively bargain price compared to a trip or sporting event.”

“Mario” currently has a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences were more favorable and gave the film an A CinemaScore.

Dergarabedian said the release date was “perfect” and gave audiences plenty of time to get into Pratt. “Guardians of the Galaxy v. 3”. Opening on May 5th.

The story of shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro and his time at Nike before signing Michael Jordan was released in 3,507 theaters.

The film, which marks Amazon Studios’ first international theatrical releaseAfter opening Wednesday in North America, it grossed an estimated $20.2 million.

“John Wick: Chapter 4.” It took second place, adding $14 million to its $147 million total since opening three weeks ago.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which finished third with $14.5 million in its second weekend, “Scream VI” rounded out the top 5 with $3.3 million.
