Scott McTominay is set to leave Manchester United if his playing time does not improve.

Manchester United’s midfield options are insufficient to sustain a challenge across the front four and manager Erik ten Haag wants to change that going forward.

Casemiro’s suspension and Christian Eriksen’s injury meant the Dutch coach had to rely on Scott McTominay and Marcel Sabitzer, both of whom did not perform well against Newcastle.

United won their game against Brentford but the Red Devils will need to bring in some strong options going forward.

United needs midfield reinforcements

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of midfielders including Frenkie de Jong, Alexis McAllister, Jude Bellingham and Romeo Lavia.

Any move by either of them could spell the end for McTominay, who has fallen dramatically since Casemiro’s arrival.

According to Football Insider, the Scot has expressed his desire to leave and seek pastures new if his fortunes do not improve.

United are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements, with United academy graduates keen to leave in search of regular game time as minutes become harder to come by.

Scott McTominay has told the Man United board he wants to leave this summer if he falls short of the transfer window.

McTominay is set to leave United.

“McTominay is in the prime of his career and needs regular game time and sees another midfield signing in the summer as a major threat to his role in the squad,” the report added.

The 26-year-old has made 34 appearances for United this season, but has started just 15 times and amassed a total of 1,028 Premier League minutes.

In contrast, McTominay played 2,392 minutes in the Premier League last season and was a regular under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Scotland international has been linked with Newcastle and that could be the only sure way to get regular minutes, with McTominay now all he needs to be on top form.
