Manchester United tightened their grip on the top four with a 2-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Red Devils have been impressive this season under new manager Erik ten Haag, ending a six-year trophy drought at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
The red halves of Manchester are getting brighter as the dependent Glazers finally come close to completing the sale of the club.
Whichever new owner takes over, United will be looking for reinforcements this summer and a number of names have been linked with the club in recent months.
One name that is emerging is AS Monaco’s Axel Desassi.
The 25-year-old centre-back has had a good campaign for Les Monégasques so far this year, apart from their first league match.
Desassi has been named in France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad as a replacement for injured PSG centre-back Presnel Kimpembe.
He made his debut in a 1-0 loss against Tunisia and became the first French player to appear at a World Cup in over 50 years.
D’Sassi would make two more appearances for Les Blas in Qatar, including a cameo in the dramatic final against Argentina, but was unable to help the team clinch the coveted title.
Apart from United, the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have also followed suit for the talented defender this summer with the aim of securing a permanent signing.
In a recent interview with Givemesport, transfer partner Dean Jones spoke about the Red Devils’ interest in Desassi.
He is a different type of player, but if Axel Desassi comes from the same Monaco path, he could be considered a mark two of Patrice Evra.
The ceiling is high, he’s the same age as Evra when he joined the club and I’ve been told the initial conversations around this over the last couple of months have been very positive.
United’s long-standing interest in Desasi could end a transfer request in May, with the futures of club captain Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in doubt at Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Mail, Monaco are ready to sell Desassi in the summer, for £44m.
He seems like the right price for the type of defender Erik ten Haag prefers and a talented, versatile CB who hasn’t reached the peak of his powers at just 25 years old.
