A woman is dead, and a man is hospitalized after a shootout with police. Interstate 95 in Virginia; Officials say.
It happened around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday when a Virginia State Police trooper spotted an SUV on I-95 with the wrong license plate in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. FOX 5 DC reports.
When the trooper tried to stop the vehicle, the SUV sped off.
The driver initially collided with the guard rail, but continued southbound on the interstate, authorities said.

The driver of the SUV continued southbound in the Prince William County area of Quantico and ran off the right side of the road and into the woods. As the troopers approached the SUV, The driver started shooting. Officials said.
Law enforcement opened fire and hit the male driver and the female passenger.
Police said the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The woman died on the spot. Neither has been identified.

Police said the man first crashed near the 152 mile marker when he struck a guard rail, but continued southbound on I-95. (FOX 5 DC)
No officers were injured. shot. As per standard protocol, the soldiers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
A weapon was recovered from the SUV, officials said in a press release.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police Criminal Investigations Fairfax Field Office.

The accident and the shooting caused major delays for the morning commuters.
The Virginia Department of Transportation tweeted that the left lane of southbound I-95 in Quantico was open at around 7:42 a.m. Traffic began moving through the area again. The department said we should continue to wait for delays or use an alternative route.
