Richardson should be the third quarterback taken behind Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s CJ Stroud. While Kentucky’s Will Levis may move to a team that picks him at No. 4, like the Indianapolis Colts, there’s no conceivable way for Tennessee. Hendon Hooker is the third quarterback taken this spring. This is because teams like the Raiders look up.
Jeremy Fuller of ESPN Lai said. Sports center Richardson met with the Raiders on Saturday, and things went very well in that meeting.
“I was told he was in their building in Vegas yesterday. They went and probably had a sensible meal, had a nice dinner with the Raiders’ brass. They put him on the big board to work out plays and test his mental approach to the game. They told me the meeting went well by all accounts.
While it would be risky for a team like the Raiders to take a swing at Richardson, head coach Josh McDaniel and general manager Dave Ziegler would make sense to put their careers on someone like him. Yes, Richardson could be the next JaMarcus Russell for the Silver and Black, but he could also be Sin City’s version of Josh Allen. The robbers must have a big swing because they stink.
Let’s discuss where Richardson could come off the board and if that would be the case for the Raiders.

Although there is a very outside chance that Richardson goes No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers, Frank Reich hates short dudes, but I think Strode or Young is the choice. I expect the Houston Texans to sit at No. 2 and take everything that Carolina didn’t, secretly taking Young over Carolina Strode so the former Alabama star can play for DeMeco Ryan.
While I think the Arizona Cardinals are an interesting trade return candidate, they are in prime position to take the best quarterback in the draft. This might be too much fun for them to go back. As for the Colts’ pick at No. 4, I think Richardson might actually come off the board. However, Indianapolis could do something stupid and take Levis.
Picking the Seattle Seahawks at No. 5 isn’t a bad potential trade partner for the Raiders. Seattle could take Richardson, but the Seahawks already have Geno Smith. Their general manager, John Schneider, also likes to trade back. Assuming the Cardinals stop the Colts from doing something stupid, the Raiders going No. 5 isn’t a ridiculous concept. The Detroit Lions can take it.
That’s really a team to watch in all of this. Detroit has the ability to take a flyer on Richardson at No. 6 because that pick belonged to the Los Angeles Rams. They already have Jared Goff under center, but even he feels like his generation’s version of Chris Chandler. He’s good enough to start and win games, but not enough for any franchise to want to invest in him long-term.
Detroit may want to add a defensive star to boost prominence in the NFC. I think at that point, the furthest Richardson falls is the Raiders’ No. 7 pick. Yes, Las Vegas could trade back and try to work around Jimmy Garoppolo, but I have a hard time seeing the Atlanta Falcons take him on the number. 8. Of course, Atlanta can do that and send us all into a rage.
All in all, the Raiders have to gamble at this point in their competitive life cycle. Garoppolo was right to get out of Derek Carr as he put in. However, they need a blue-chip prospect who can learn to hold his own in a class with Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes. Richardson may be a total eclipse, but the coverage is worth the risk of Las Vegas. Shaping it should be considered here.
Ultimately, Richardson will give the Raiders some much-needed juice after moving on from Carr. He could be the player that magically turns McDaniels into a pro. NFL Head coach? let’s see. Frankly, it’s more of a stretch for them to advance a project quarterback than a top-tier prospect, but this feels like an Al Davis fever dream.
Then again, the market dictates Richardson’s rapid development, so the Raiders would be justified in taking him.
