Manchester United are set to battle Tottenham and Chelsea for Brentford's David Raya.

Manchester United have been told how much Brentford’s David Raya would cost if they tried to sign a goalkeeper this summer.

The Red Devils need to increase their numbers between the sticks, all three shots in the current squad will be released in June.

Jack Butland’s loan spell ends as Tom Heaton and David De Gea are set to see their contracts expire.

The latter has proposed a new agreement on reduced terms, but the parties have yet to agree on an extension.

Even if the Spaniard sticks to it, Erik ten Haag could look to employ the goalkeeper more in keeping with his general principles.

His ability to get off the line and play from the back could prove useful in the manager’s efforts to instill a more active and possession-oriented style of football at Old Trafford.

Raya certainly fits that bill and could be a sensible addition if his own contract expires at the end of next season.

And base Fabrizio RomanoA move is very much on the cards.

“David Raya will not sign a new contract, there will be no changes in the future because many important clubs are watching him closely for the summer,” he said.

“Understood Brentford to demand €40m for Raya – hopes for top club transfer while playing position clear.”

Whether or not United will spare €40m for a new goalkeeper remains to be seen, with the Hag needing ten strikers this summer and targeting a new midfielder and right-back this summer.

But if the club fail to agree a new contract with David De Gea, they may have no choice but to prioritize the position.
