Manchester United have turned their attention to Southampton boss James Ward-Prowse.

Manchester United failed to take any control of the proceedings as they humbly surrendered to Newcastle on Sunday.

The Red Devils have been hit hard by the absence of the injured Christian Eriksen and the suspended Casemiro. The team lacks the manpower to effectively beat opposing presses and move the ball.

Manager Erik ten Haag tried different combinations but all three – Fred, Scott McTominay and Marcel Sabitzer – failed to capitalize on their chances.

Average required by OT

United need a playmaker and ball carrier ahead of next season, someone who can cover for Eriksen, who is 31 this year.

The 20-time Premier League champions are joined by the likes of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham and Southampton star Romeo Lavia.

The latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is a surprising name – Southampton’s James Ward Prows.

According to Football Insider, Ten Hag has led the club to follow the Saints boss as he can solve a number of issues within the squad. He can also play as a No. 8 as well as a defensive pivot if needed.

“Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is a summer target for Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources familiar with the situation at the Red Devils have confirmed that manager Erik ten Haag is “hell intent” on bolstering his side’s midfield options in the transfer window.

Ward-Prowse attracts many suitors

The England international has nine goals and three assists in 36 games in all competitions and is on course to record his best goalscoring record in a single season.

If the Saints face relegation trouble this campaign, it will be difficult to contain their boss. St. Mary’s team is just four points away from safety.

With Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa all interested in a transfer this summer, United are not the only ones interested.

The versatility of the Ward-Proves set combined with its versatility makes it an attractive proposition for many clubs.

The midfielder is now just one penalty goal away from David Beckham’s all-time Premier League record. If United can get out of this deal, he would be great.
