Manchester United and Newcastle are set to battle it out for Jeremy Frimpong in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have started talks with Jeremy Frimpong as Bayern Munich revealed their market value for the player.

Erik ten Haag has made Frempong a summer transfer target with interest in the right-back.

The 22-year-old Frimpong has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 26 Bundesliga appearances this season.

After studying at Manchester City’s academy, he signed for the German club from Celtic in January 2021 for €11 million.

The Netherlands international moved to northwest England with his family when he was seven years old, joining the Premier League’s youth set-up a few years later.

according to Sport Bild Correspondent Axel Hesse, United has been in talks with the Frimpong party for weeks at this stage.

Meanwhile, according to Sport Bild’s sources, Leverkusen will pay 50 million euros for Frimpong.

The player still has two more years left on his contract, giving Leverkusen the perfect opportunity to bring in a big fee this summer.

The price rise has also fueled interest from a number of top clubs – with Bayern Munich and Barcelona set to battle United for the 22-year-old.

The key, however, is Frimpong’s connection to Manchester: after Amsterdam, Manchester became his second home.

Bild claim that this will influence Frimpong’s decision and motivate him to move to Old Trafford.

United have recently been linked with Bayern Munich for Bundesliga right-back Benjamin Pavard.
