Manchester United are in the hunt for Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Manchester United tightened their grip on the top four with a 1-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford scored his 28th goal of the season to make the difference on the night.

The Red Devils bounced back from their 0-2 defeat at Tyneside on Sunday with a fine performance against the Bees.

United, under new manager Erik ten Haag, have been in impressive form this season, ending a six-year trophy drought at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.

They are nowhere close to being the finished article, and plenty of movement is expected in the winter transfer window.

One position that has been under a lot of scrutiny this season is the goalkeeper position.

David De Gea has become the undisputed No. 1 under the Ten Hag this term, with the likes of Martin Dubravka, Jack Butland and Tom Heaton standing in on the bench.

The Spaniard’s contract expires this summer and there are doubts over his long-term stay at the club.

This uncertainty has led United to pursue goalkeepers from Diogo Costa and Portugal’s Odysseus Vlakodimos to Kevin Trapp and Jan Sommer in Germany.

Now, according to a new report from the Spanish Cop, United have made a strong bid for Valencia striker Giorgi Mamardashvili with a view to signing him permanently this summer.

The 22-year-old was originally signed in 2021 on a one-year loan deal for reserve side Valencia in the Tercera Division.

Mamardashvili would go on to impress then-Los Ches manager Jose Bordals during pre-season, and hasn’t looked back since.

The Georgia shot-stopper kept 8 clean sheets in 18 league games last season, earning rave reviews.

He has been in good form this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed by the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Representatives of both clubs met with representatives of Mardashvili and United also met with him.

Mamardashvili has a contract at Mestalla until 2027 and Valencia will no doubt make a huge bid for their best player.

David De Gea is hailed (and rightly so) as a United legend, but he’s not a good enough ball player, doesn’t sweep well and struggles to claim crosses, all three traits that are pillars of modern times. Guard.

Standing at 6’6, Mamardashvili excels in all of the aforementioned qualities and would be a long-term signing for the Red Devils.

To keep an eye.
