Lotus drummer Chuck Morris and his son have recovered

The bodies of Chuck Morris, the musician known as the drummer for the band Lotus, and his son Charlie have been found, authorities confirmed Sunday, 24 days after the pair disappeared during a kayaking trip in Arkansas.

Officials said the body was recovered thanks to technology and efforts from Carroll County Mennonite Emergency Services and a Tennessee Christian Aid Ministry search and rescue team using remotely operated underwater vehicles in a “difficult environment” at a depth of 180 feet.

“Sheriff Holloway, along with the families of Chuck and Charlie, would like to thank all the men and women who donated their time and effort to help the family find closure and recover the two missing men,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

“The family of Chuck and Charlie Morris are heartbroken and thankful to have closure today,” the sheriff’s office said.

The pair went missing on a kayaking trip on Beaver Lake in mid-March, prompting a massive recovery effort.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Shannon Jenkins said the effort involved divers, boats, dogs and other agencies from multiple agencies.

But during the days of the search, the operation became a recovery effort.

“We were all hoping for a miracle, but at this point the search for Chuck and Charlie has shifted to recovery. With the help of K9 teams, there is a possible location on the lake, but the depth of the heat, weather and logistical challenges have prevented recovery so far,” the band said. “While we are deeply saddened, we plan to celebrate Chuck and Charlie’s lives, our memories and what they meant to so many people,” the group added.
