The 2022-23 NBA regular season officially concluded Sunday afternoon when all 30 teams played their final games.
On Tuesday, the playoffs begin, and the NBA Playoffs begin on Saturday afternoon.
Ten-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony went the entire offseason without signing, and this is the first year he hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2002 (while still in college).
Have NBA teams made mistakes?
The future Hall of Famer is currently 38 years old, so he is far from prime.
That said, Anthony played in 69 regular season games for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021-22 season and was an effective role player off the bench.
He averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 44.1% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range.
There is no doubt that he still remains one of the top 450 basketball players in the world.
According to StatMuseOf the bench players who played 50+ games in the 2022-23 season, only six averaged 13.0 points or more.
Anthony Assuming he plays the same way he did in 2022, that would put him among the top bench scorers in the league.
While there are valid questions about his defense (especially his age), his goalscoring might have made up for the defensive liabilities.
Anthony is still one of the best players of all time in addition to his ability to produce as a shooter and I would have done more fans with his presence.
Overall, the six-time All-NBA player could have helped many different teams and deserved a chance on a ten-day contract or non-guaranteed deal.
