Caterina Scorsone is known for her roles in a series of films that often depict horrors, disasters and tragedies.
But the actress faced a real-life situation this year that cost her nothing.
In an Instagram post on Monday, the Grey’s Anatomy star detailed the devastating loss of her four pets.
And where her children are very close to extinction.

“As they were getting my kids ready for bed and finishing their bath time, smoke began to billow around the sink.
“Looking down the hall, a river of black smoke had already formed and was filling the house,” Scorsson wrote… husband Rob Giles.
One thing about fires: they happen fast.
“I had about two minutes to get my three children out of the house, and we escaped with less than a shoe on our feet. But we got out.”

The actress added:
“I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we escaped with less than a shoe on our feet. But we got out. I’m forever grateful for that.”
“Sadly, we lost all four of our pets.
“We’re still dealing with that loss, but we’re lucky we never got to love them.”

Scorsone posted a photo of the destroyed home and a message about the aftermath of the fire.
“What we’ve learned is that there are only people (and creatures) you love,” she wrote.
“The bottom line is community. We wouldn’t be here without it and we’re very grateful.”
The actress, who portrays Amelia Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy, has expressed support from community members and friends for helping her through the challenging time.

“This is not an article about fire. This is a post about community,” she continued.
“This is a love letter to the amazing people they’ve seen and the amazing ways they’ve done it. Thanks to the firefighters and detectives (thanks Trey!).
“Thank you to my neighbor who answered our knock on her door.
Thank you to the parents who sent toys and books to my kids’ school, my friends at @greysabc and @shondaland who sent me clothes and supplies, and my sisters who worked out the logistics for me to be with my kids.
“Thanks to my team for making everything so easy.”

In conclusion, the TV star wrote:
“Here are some photos to celebrate the place we once called home, say goodbye to the animals we love so much, and celebrate that we have the only thing we really need.”
Uh huh?
We are so grateful that Scorsone and her children got it right. We send our best wishes.
