Andrew Wiggins has not played for the Golden State Warriors since February 13th due to a personal family matter, but is now back with the team and will be back on the floor in the next week or so.
Before Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Wiggins spoke to the media alongside general manager Bob Myers and discussed why the time off was important.
“When you’re in a situation and your family needs you, it demands your attention and your love. That’s my number one priority,” Wiggin said. “My work, everything, family is always first for me and it will always be like that. I feel that I am in a safe place to return and that everything is stable, not completely stable, but I feel that we are in a safe place. I could return.”
According to an NBA insider Shams Charania Aside from athletics, Wiggins has been away from the Warriors since his father suffered serious health problems.
“I’ve been working, but obviously the NBA needs a different kind of conditioning,” Wiggins said of when he might return. “I don’t think it will be long before I get there.”
Speaking of the Warriors, he was appreciative of how comfortable the team was in Wiggins’ absence.
“It’s been all love and support,” Wiggins said. “I’ve had a lot of teammates just hit it off and send their love and prayers. I just appreciate it all, it goes a long way. It means more than just basketball.”
Before Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Warriors find themselves with a 41-38 record, good enough for the 6-seed in the Western Conference.
With just three games left, the Warriors have no margin for error to avoid the play-in tournament, which is why Wiggin’s return is crucial at this point.
However, no time frame has been given by the team for Andrew Wiggins’ return to the floor.
